I decided to make my project exactly what I would want if I were going to rehab.
My design’s main theme is healing through activity. I want to make there to be plenty to do for residents to keep their mind off things, and to introduce new hobbies and new friends. Forming new relationships and new hobbies will help in the healing process, and keep them accountable in the future.
I designed this building with the residents as the top priority. Everything is designed to be open and inviting to everyone, promoting social interaction and friendship creation. Everywhere they go, the residents have activities to join in on. These are fun things to do with each other or look forward to in the future. There are many options to choose from, like tennis, a gym, and cooking classes. For those who prefer something less active, multiple community areas with billiards, foos ball, video games,  and more.
Suspension: Varying the heights of  different floor levels promotes view and interaction between the different programs. Activities all around the building are situated at different levels with pathways connecting through them. These pathways  are for efficient movement throughout the building. Every area has multiple access points. The gridded volume is not solid and lets fresh air pass through. It creates a refreshing outdoor experience.
The layout of the resident’s rooms is to give the most views of the city outside while keeping their privacy. These rooms give the residents a private space to relax or just get through the day. The many open areas help with meeting new people. The activities, community spaces, and new friends help the resident with whatever they are going through at the time.
