The driving force of my design is mental health. Studies show that being in nature every day helps with mental health. Along with this, animal therapy has helped many people to improve their mental status. That is why I chose my student program as an animal therapy area.
The site is a warehouse building in Lewis MacAdams park in LA.
Research and Plans:
The site is the star near the top of the map. This map was to show the lack of nature in the area without crossing a freeway/river.

A library and mental health sanctuary.
The exterior is an arboretum with winding paths throughout. These lead you
inward towards the heart of the library. Following the paths through the trees they
take you under a ramp as you enter a courtyard. You are surrounded by the library.
In front of you are animals to play with, and many books to read.
Are you in heaven?
No, you are in my library with an animal therapy center built in.

My library is a sanctuary away from the hustle of life. The nature and
animal therapy center are there to create a calming place you can relax away from all
the stresses of life.
But that's not all.
The overall shape of the library hugs the middle courtyard protecting you
from the outside. Meanwhile the ramps block views out and direct your eyes
inwards to the courtyard.
The ramps also connect different floors together, and tie the structure to the
ground. The main form is two halves bridging together to make one structure, all
centered around the courtyard and animal therapy center.

The stacks and open reading areas have close access to the ramps. This provides
freedom of choosing where to read. The ramps are also paired together to create a
seamless path throughout all the rooms, and up to the top of the library. The top is
another place to relax and breathe in the nature.
